Welcome & Overview - Alex & Cole
Who are we? What are we going to do? Why are we doing this??
Intertidal Ecology and Niche Concept - Alex
What could be driving patterns of species distribution in the rocky intertidal? Niche: the set of abiotic and biotic conditions under which an organism can survive and reproduce.
Populations & Scales - Alex
How do we define a population? At what spatial scales can populations be considered? From small local measurements (like the intertidal), how can we scale up these findings to apply to general population theory? In addition, we discuss how citizen science efforts can help meet these goals.
Species Life History & Demographics - Alex
The life history of a species - where it breeds, how long it lives, etc. - plays an enormous role in dictating how populations will grow or decline. We discuss how historical patterns can be used to understand baselines to get a sense for how populations are changing today.
